Shipyard school builds new Tad Roberts electric launch for Barefoot.

Another  boat by Tad Roberts. Exited by the performance of Tads last school built launch, as a shepherd boat on the shipyard school raid to port Townsend, we asked Tad to design us something that resembled one of the old Turner boats in our yard but perhaps a bit more seaworthy and enough increased boyancy to handle the weight of an electric drive system. Were still working out the details of this system but at present it looks like a 24 volt set up with 4 six volt golf cart batteries. We had planned on using the etec motor but after discussing it with Randy, at Canadian Electric Vehicles we may have been convinced that its overkill. We're hoping for 8-10 hours running time at 5 knots. Still looking for that perfect combination of motor and batteries. We'll let you know when we figure out what that is. Meanwhile, down at the boat school.......

Here's Lucas and Amy gluing up a transom, wishing Richard would take his camera somewhere else.

Heres a picture of the lofting and a few patterns. There's the deadwood glued up on the left. All wood in this boat will be red and yellow cedar. She's to be carvel planked with red cedar and all transom, keel, stem, and steam bent ribs will be yellow cedar.

The stem was stem bent to shape and let set then glued up the following day.

The transom is complete with fashion pieces. The keel was cut and a slot cut for the shaft and re-glued.

Al Brunt, instructor, keeps a careful eye. Trevor is usually making faces but held back this time.

Strong back built and molds going up.

Ribbands installed and ready for frames.

Yahoo, we're finally framing!!!!!
