Kindly Light
Launched
in 1965 Kindly Light was designed and built by Robert Davis of
Oakville
,
Ontario
.
The largest of Davis' boats Kindly
Light is a 40ft centre- cockpit
ketch, carvel planked with 1 ½" Alaskan yellow cedar planking on 2"
white oak frames and a 5/4 teak
deck. Her first voyage, in June
1965, was south to the
Bahamas
.
Until 1999, Kindly Light was a common sight on the
Great
Lakes
,
when her current owners took her south to the
Bahamas
again. This voyage, however,
resulted in a trip across country to the west coast and
Gabriola
Island.
A
major refit including new power plant, electronics, refrigeration, major
interior re-design, rigging, hardware and sails was completed from 1996-99. She
will have her decks refastened and caulked this spring.
